Takashi Murakami was born in 1962 in Tokyo, Japan. He received his B.F.A., M.F.A., and Ph.D. from the University of the Arts, Japan. Nicknamed “The Warhol of Japan”, Takashi Murakami is known for combining fine art and pop culture. Murakami founded the “Superflat” theory of the 1990s, which is influenced by colourful anime and manga cartoons. He is currently living and working in Tokyo and New York.
